An Online Magazine of Black Art and Culture
What is Quadratix?
Welcome to Quadratix. Welcome to an online magazine of art and culture. Quadratix is a creative collective. Our aim is to give voice to the voiceless and vision to the invisible. By producing, sharing and collaborating we hope to present works of cultural and educational value to the progressive black community.
Quadratix is a holistic endevour that will contain works from many creative fields. Conceptually we’ll try to expand the brain’s duality, ie. creative and analytical, into a quadrality; Visual, Aural, Technical, and Intellectual.
Why Quadratix?
We are aware of the current corporate death grip on all media. The five (media) families dole out high tech opiates in an effort to keep the masses “fat, horny and strung out”. Through video games, movies, print media, advertising and popular music the media giants feed us a steady diet of materialism, “faux” news, and hedonism. Our identities as black people has been manipulated, hidden, and manufactured.
While some may want to protest these media outlets in order to force them to act as proper stewards of the public trust, this site feels that if we can’t get the kind of media we want out of the system then we should create it ourselves.
How is Quadratix?
Quadratix is the brainchild of your webmaster and host Darryl Crosby. This is not a commercial endeavor but an attempt to add something of value to the mix. The content will be broken down into four parts and over time may include any of the following.
Sight.
Graphics, drawing, painting, photography, scupture, user commentary and critiques.
Sound.
Original recordings: songs, loops, soundtracks, spoken word. It may also include music reviews, user commentary and critiques.
Speech.
political and cultural editorials. Poetry, prose, News, book reviews. Online forum, user commentary and critiques.
Code.
Web design, Flash animation, video, movie reviews, user commentary and critiques.
Quadratix is a concept under construction. We are a creative collective of artists local to the Northeast Ohio area. We look forward to growing our contrubuter list with other progressive creatives, where ever they may be, who are interested in adding something positive to the online media landscape. If you’d like to contribute to Quadratix, please contact us at contact@quadratix.org or send a sample of your work.
